White bread is made from heavily reinfed flour that has had the fiber and bran removed. Basically it is just empty calories with little to no nutritional value. It is easier to overeat products made from white flour because the fiber is what makes you feel full and keep from getting hungry longer. Whereas darker breads are generally whole grain that include the fiber and bran. They fill you up more so you don't eat as much and you get the extra nutrition from the whole grain. My favorite is multi-grain bread.
